Meeting Reports 2010.

2010 Worlds Report

Gary arrived at the Worlds with hope of a better meeting than the Notts previously which was nothing short of a disaster. Keith and Mark Whittaker had taken my car and got it ready for the meeting and I am very grateful for the time they took to get the car done.

Heat 1- Gary raced really well and got a good score of 50 Laps and came third

Heat 2 - Slightly more action in this one which delayed Gary but the car was still going well and got 49 Laps and came 4th

Heat 3 - With a lot lying on this Gary made a couple of changes to the car and it worked Gary set off and led for around 2 minutes before letting Dick Batty pass so not to damage his lap chances but as Gary went round a back marker Gary got hit in the side which shoved him towards the fence unfortunately then the engine cut out. Gary managed to get the car restarted but lost 6 laps finishing 4th again with only 44 laps.

Sadly Gary didn’t make the top 24 as he had hoped but it was a good days racing and the car was going well.

Next meeting Notts + Derby Sunday 26th September

Meeting Report 18th July at Nora

A Hastily arranged extra meeting for Nora which Gary managed to attend full of high hopes after winning the previous meeting.

Heat 1 - Gary won this race in fine style

Result 1st

Heat 2 - Slightly more difficult this one but once again Gary managed to hang on to the win

Result 1st

Heat 3 - Gary up against Dick Batty in this one and Gary was noticing the car was going slower but was keeping with Dick thanks to him keeping going through the traffic

Result 2nd Place

Heat 4 - Gary still not happy with the speed of the car but only 3 cars were going round and Gary kept out of the trouble when passing the other cars

Result 1st

Gary qualified straight through to the final again which he was very happy with and also with the most laps in the heat with 53 Laps

Final - Gary started the final trying to keep with Dick Batty was going to be a problem and the final was quite chaotic but was keeping with Dick until about 10 seconds to go when Gary collided with another car and the car stalled.
Gary still managed to hold onto 2nd place which he was very happy

Result 2nd

Gary also played his Nora Club Championship joker which mean’t he was racing for Double Points and Gary hopes he picked the right meeting to play it.

Meeting Report 25th July English Championship at Leicester

Gary arrived at Leicester for the next National Round which also doubled up as the English Championship, Gary was still unhappy with the speed on the car in practise so Simon Farrer made a couple of adjustments to the engine which make it go quicker.

A nice day at Leicester a track where Gary hasn’t really done very well at hopefully today would change that.

Heat 1 - Gary was drawn with Jody Foster the Number 1 ranked driver in the UK and the race began and Jody was very fast in this one, Gary was going ok and kept out of trouble. Jody broke the track record in this one with 54 Laps.

Result 49 Laps

Heat 2 - Gary in the same group for this one but the car was handling worse in this one Gary had altered a couple of things but the car wasn’t quite handling right so the laps were down.

Result 46 Laps

Heat 3 - After a shuffle around Gary set for Heat 3 after changing the inside front tyre, Gary found a little slow to start with but the tyre started to grip mid race and Gary was going well

Result 47 Laps

Heat 4 - Last qualifying heat for Gary and he had not touched the car from the previous race and the car was even better

Result 48 Laps

After a quick calculation from Race Control Gary had qualified for the quarter finals and was drawn in a tough one with the World Champion and also Dick Batty from Nora.

Quarter Final - Gary set off for the warm up and the car wasn’t going very fast like previously a quick set up change from Simon made it slightly better something was wrong but it’s a championship meeting so Gary started the quarter final. Gary made a bad start but was getting through the traffic quite well but the top 2 were away Dick Batty was close by and Gary managed to overtake Dick as he went wide lying in 3rd at that stage that would be enough to qualify but Dick came back at Gary only to run out of time. Luckily for Gary the race ended as another 10 seconds he would have been out of fuel

Result 3rd Place 59 Laps

Gary back in the pits and more set up tweaks from Simon would they work time would tell!

Semi Final - Gary was drawn with the World Champion and the top 2 ranked drivers in the UK with a couple of Leicester regulars too this was going to be tough. The warm up again Gary knew something was wrong but he started the race and the engine was a lot slower and Gary had a bad start going 2 laps down before Gary had got going but again Gary got into the race just trying to finish his first ever championship semi final. Then a stroke of luck for Gary 2 drivers collided and both stalled meaning they would have to go back to the pits so Gary just wanted to take 4th as he could do nothing about the other 3 drivers and Gary took fourth place

Result 56 Laps 4th

Like at Nora the previous week Gary played his National Joker so Gary raced for Double points all day for the National Series and Gary picked a hatful of points up.

After the meeting Simon Farrer tried to get the engine going better after around 70 Laps and several attempts to tweak the Simon which were unsuccessful Simon suggested the engine get taken out and Simon would have a look at it. Last week Gary received the news that substantial damage to the engine had occurred and there was no point trying to repair the bits so had lost a engine.

Thanks to Simon for doing what he did that day at Leicester.

Next Meeting 8th August at Nora

Nora 4th July 2010

After the last meetings problems with the spare engine and the other engine still being away with Simon Farrer Gary was hoping for a better days racing and thanks to Ian Yarwood who spent some time setting the engine how it should perform and with practise Gary noticed a difference with the car.

Heat 1 - Gary was placed in a 4 car heat and on his own from red top so Gary started racing and just trying to avoid the fellow drivers on track waiting for his oppourtunity to pass and it worked as he managed a good win.

Result- 1st Place

Heat 2 - Gary made no changes to the car and set off again and was well in control again once again being patient and it was working but with 20 seconds left Gary collided with another car and the car stalled, even racing back to the pits to restart the car was in vain but Gary kept hold of the victory on split times

Result 1st Place

Heat 3 - A shuffle of the heats for Heats 3+4 proving different drivers to race against. As the race started the other red top starting at the side of Gary half spun and landed on Gary’s bonnet but he was still moving eventually shaking the car off.
Another tangle mid race put Gary behind but the last minute Gary passed the leader and unlapped himself and the leader being taken out again but Gary couldn’t make up the gap.

Result 2nd Place

Heat 4 - No mistakes this time from Gary as from the start he raced well avoided the crashes and took another win.

Result 1st Place

After the results were added up Gary had qualified straight through to the Final as 1st qualifier another excellent performance.

Final - Gary lined up for the final with the engine still being a bit funny Gary had no time for a warm up and the buzzer went Gary got took out early doors but managed to get in a good rhythm and was passing the other drivers. The handling was the best it had been all day but Gary didn’t know where he was in the race and just kept going passing the cars carefully not to make any silly mistakes and I am proud to say that I won the final by 4 Laps

Result 1st Place 65 Laps

This is my first ever feature final win in either 12th or 8th scale stock cars and I was very happy. Pictures to follow as I won the Speedy Hire Trophy which wasn’t there on the day but hopefully will be at the next meeting.

Thanks to Ian Yarwood for setting the engine up and to Ian Yarwood Junior for all his help maintaining the car.

Next meeting 18th July at Nora an extra meeting to the fixture list

Nora 20th June 2010

Another bad day at the office for Gary as the spare engine put in the car last week at Hastings was not performing as well as it should and Gary did not know what to do.

Results wise not the greatest but we did win one Heat 3rd in another 2 and 5th Place last in the other.

Due to the poor results Gary didn’t qualify for the Semi Final or the Final so raced in the Grand National where again another plug was changed and finished 2nd in the Grand National.

Hastings June 12th and 13th

Gary made the long journey for the grand opening meeting at Hastings which was raced over 2 days the Saturday being a fun pairs and the Sunday being a points meeting.

Gary brought the new DB car out for the Saturday and was paired with the promoter at Hastings Micky Betts.

Gary made a slow start with tyres coming unglued and coming off but in the end they finished 3rd with Gary going out in the B Final and getting 63 Laps with sadly Micky breaking down in the A Final.

Gary was happy with the overall handling of the car and looks forward to racing it again next time.

The Sunday meeting Gary arrived early and went back to the Whittaker Chassis that had done well on the Friday Night at Leicester.

Gary had a very tough opening 2 heats but the car performed well with the handling going nicely then Heat 3 about to start Gary could not start the car. A plug was changed and still nothing so Gary asked Mark Whittaker for his help and Mark tried all he could but Gary missed the race the first one of the season that Gary hadn’t taken any part of.

Mark had a further look at the engine and it was decided that the engine needed to come out before Heat 4 and the engine out of the DB Car would have to replace it if Gary wished to continue in the meeting. Thanks to Mark the engine was swapped over and the radio reset ready for action.

The race started for Heat 4 and Gary decided just to finish and keep going and he did going really well.

Gary just missed qualifying for the final for a couple of laps so Gary was first qualifier for the semi final. Gary set off the car was handling great just a bit of bad luck put Gary 2 behind the 2nd place driver but a good finish anyway.

Overall a long weekends racing with Engine Damage but it was good anyway to race at the new track Hastings. Thanks to everyone who helped me over the weekend racing Mark Whittaker and Simon Farrer especially.

Leicester 11th June 2010

Gary made the trip down for the Friday night meeting as Gary really enjoys racing under Floodlights.

Heat 1 - Gary made a slow start as the engine wasn’t quite set right and the car needed a bit more setup

Result 39 Laps

Heat 2 - Adjustments made to the engine thanks to Simon Farrer and we set off again the car going better and the laps improved.

Result 41 Laps

Heat 3 - The best of the night as Simon again tweaked the car changing the front inside tyre and the car was totally different Gary had the car right and the jump in laps was justified as Gary was behind Mark Whittaker who broke the track record.

Result 50 Laps

Gary qualified for the consolation and set off with no changes to the car Gary was competitive in a very fast race under the lights a bit more luck in this race and Gary would have qualified but a good nights racing anyway.

Result 46 Laps

Nora 6th June Northern Round

Gary arrived at Round 2 of the Northern Round hoping for a good day but sadly it wasn’t a disaster in fact with the weather playing a major factor with it raining and Gary not being able to get the correct set up for the car. Not qualifying for the final this time but Gary will learn for the next time about setting the car up and the engine set up.

Next Meeting 11th June Leicester RSCL

Nora 16th May 2010

Well Gary arrived at this meeting after having a bit of a panic as he was unable to build up the new car so he had to build up the one that had been raced all this season so far.

Heat 1- Gary set off in a good heat and enjoyed a good race with Ian Yarwood but he overtook him when Ian went out and hung on to claim the win
1st 51 Laps

Heat 2 - Gary once again hoping for the same set off and got a good start but was chasing Ian again unfortunately Gary had a collision with Ian causing them to hook up Gary was fortunate to come out first and gained the advantage and won by ¾ Lap from Ian
1st 52 Laps

Heat 3 - A shuffle of heats as usually happens at this time and Gary was drawn with Dick Batty. The heat started and Gary was making good progress put distance between himself and Dick and Gary taking the win again.
1st 53 Laps

Heat 4 - Gary knew Dick would up his game for this one and he did Gary struggling to keep with Dick but managed to lose only by a lap
2nd 53 Laps

Gary qualified 1st straight through to the final which Gary was really pleased about

Final - Gary started alongside Ian Yarwood again for this one and got the start on him but Gary knew it would be tough to keep Ian behind him. In the final also was a yellow top which Gary got round to take the lead and that’s how it stayed for a considerable amount of the race Gary keeping a ½ Lap advantage but disaster struck for Gary when passing the yellow top to lap the driver Gary caught it wrong and half spun into the boards allowing Ian to retake the lead and with ½ lap to make up in about 2 laps Gary set off again and was trying to reel Ian in but couldn’t quite manage it getting the advantage down to a ¼ of a straight as the buzzer sounded for the end.
2nd 66 Laps

An excellent meeting for Gary and hope to carry on to the next meeting

Nora 18th April 2010

After the first meeting of the season which turned out ok Gary arrived with his new chassis done by Ian Yarwood in readiness for a good days racing. The weather was dry all day with sunshine in the morning but it did cloud over in the afternoon.

Practise started and as the track had oil put down Gary decided on Rocket Tyres on the Rear which was ok Gary had a good practise getting used to the new chassis and how it handled.

Heat 1 - Gary set off in Heat 1 and was doing ok at the start but about 30 seconds Gary clipped a car and spun and the car stopped. Gary went back to the pits and got the car restarted and set off then but then playing catch up with the other drivers but managed to claim 5th with 39 Laps

Heat 2 - Gary changed the car for Heat2 by putting Champ Pro's on the back and the car was better Gary was happy wih the car and the result. 46 Laps

Heat 3 - No changes this time just checking tyres to make they wre glued and set off racing. Gary was in a fast heat and the results improved 49 Laps

Heat 4 - Once again with the results getting better Gary set off and was very happy with the car as it was handling superbly finishing in 2nd Place with 51 Laps.

With Gary's results Gary qualified straight through to the final so the Final starrted and Gary got a great start and got into the lead early on but Dick Batty was chasing him and passed Gary but still Gary's best ever result 2nd in the final with 64 Laps

Many thanks to Ian Yarwood Junior for all his help

Next meeting Notts + Derby 2nd May 2010

Leciester 27th December

A very cold day for racing but Gary managed to complete all his heats with repsectable laps just missing out on the Semi Finals so some good points scored for the Winter Series which pleased Gary very much

Nora 14th February

Gary arrived at his home track full of hope of a good days racing once again the weather was cold but dry. Practise was difficult for Gary struggling with set up which Gary managed to sort after a few practise runs to get the car how he liked it.

Heat 1

Gary set off in Heat 1 but the car stalled on the start line which put Gary behind but Gary managed to get back out there and raced a good race keeping a clean racing line. Whilst marshalling the Heat after he raced Gary went on to the middle to Marshall a car and due to the cold conditions slipped on the track and fell over on his elbow causing Gary considerable pain thanks to Tom Yarwood for getting the race stopped so Gary could be led away by his wife Jane off the track.

Heat 2

Still in pain Gary tried to race was going ok but the car stalled again on turn 3 and Gary decided to retire from the race which ended up retiring from the meeting and a trip to Accident and Emergency on the way home which found the elbow to be badly bruised a dissapointing end to what Gary hoped to be a good days racing.

Sunday 28th September Nora Raceway

Gary arrived with the car repaired after Leicester with hopes of a good days racing

Practise

Gary found the car was going good so after 2 lots of practise Gary prepared for the heats.

Heat 1

Heat 1 started well for Gary who just wanted to stay out of trouble sadly no lap results

Result 3rd Place

Heat 2

Gary went to start the car and it wouldn't start a change of plug was requried to get Gary out on track but that was the 3rd plug of the day further investigations after the race was required

Finish 6 Place

Heat 3

It was decided to swap engines round after Heat 2 after Gary had not done a full race distance and the belt was chewed up badly something wasn't quite right. So after the engine change Gary went out for the warm up but the car stalled on the line a dashback to the pits car restarted but missed a little bit of the race

Result 49 Laps 2nd

Heat 4

This was perfect the car was handling superbly by this point and the engine was very quick so Gary set off and drove away from the pack 34 Thomas Yarwood had a problem so Gary won the final Heat

Result 53 Laps 1st Place

Gary qualified straight through to the final which was very pleasing to Gary.

Final

Gary set off in the final and passed his fellow blue top driver and took the lead after about 30 seconds and then led the race for 3 minutes picking his way through the traffic as it was quite a rough race then disaster the inside rear tyre chunked coming out of the bend. Gary was half a lap up on the 2nd place driver when he stopped which was a bit upsetting as Gary had drove so well.
Result 6th 51Laps

Many thanks to Ian Yarwood Junior for helping Gary repair the car throughout the meeting Gary really appreciates it.

Next Meeting 4th October National at Nora

21st September RSCL Leicester

Not a good day for Gary as he struggled all dayfor grip and also failed to finish his semi final due to damage previously in the meeting.

Best laps of the day was 48 Laps with a 44 and 45 in Heats 2 and 3 before 24 Laps in the final heat.

Gary got a couple of ideas ready for his next visit on 18th October for Champion of Champions Meeting.

Gary entered the 2009 1/8th Stock Car World Championship held at Rosmalen in Holland. Gary left on the Friday before travelling with 6 others drivers on a mini bus including 2 drivers from the USA Kevin and Pete Harkins owner of Rocket RC a tyre manufacturer used in 1/8th Stock Cars by alot of drivers.

Practise Day Saturday

Gary arrived with the others around 10.30am and Gary set about checking the car which was expertly prepared by Ian Yarwood thanks to Ian for all his hard work supporting me.
Practise had already started but Gary decided to run the tyres he had ran last time at Nora to see how they were, Gary set off and the car was not handling well so Gary brought the car back in to change tyres in the process of changing the tyres Gary checked the carburetor and it was loose which mean't Gary had to take the engine out and take the carb out and get it resealed thanks to Simon Farrer for taking the time out to do this as he was getting his car set up to the track. With this problem Gary set about watching practise and helping some of the other British drivers by putting cars down as the carburetor was curing with the silicone.

Fours Hours passed and everything was dry so Gary has asked Jody Foster for his help setting the engine up which Jody did and at the same time offered me some advice on tyre set up which Gary was welcome of as the car was not good at this point. Jody offered to take Gary's car out to try and was happy and handed the controls and the car was completely different and was handling superbly thanks to Jody for that.

Sunday Race Day

Gary arrived early with the others at 6.00am to get a pit spot with open practise at 7.00am Gary was confifdent of the cars handling so Gary had a few laps in open practise and it was fine, unfortunately when Gary returned the front beam had moved forward due to snapping one of the bolts on the front beam thanks to Roy and Jonathan for helping me get it repaired in time for timed practise.

Timed Practise
Everyone who races at the worlds gets a chance of a timed practise run to see if his transponder is working in the position it is put and a final check of the cars handling. Gary did a couple of minutes and pulled the car off with it going great.

Heat 1
Gary started Heat 1 and set off to a slow start but Gary was catching the leader when the cars belt started to slip Gary decided to keep going and just take his time round and he caught the leader and just about to pass the leader and Gary collided with the leader and the car stopped due to the belt

38 Laps

Heat 2
Belt repaired for this race and Gary set off again making a better start taking the lead in the first bend and Gary was never headed winning by 2 Laps

46 Laps 1st Place

Heat 3
Another score like Heat 2 should have taken Gary through. The race started and Gary made another excellent start and took the lead and was going away from the other drivers. About half way thorugh Gary tried to avoid a back marker who spun in front but Gary hit and half spun himself and then another car hit Gary in the side and the ferocity of the hit chucked the belt of the engine and clutch a total freak accident. Jody was trying to get the belt back on and did but i had lost too much time Gary got back on near the end but the meeting was going to end here such a shame as the car was excellent

28 Laps

Gary would like to thank Simon Farrer, Steve Farrer, Paul Dexter. Mark Whittaker, Roy Watson and most of all Jody and Brian Foster for all there help over the weekend in Holland without there help Gary would have had a miserable weekend

Until the next time

Gary

Gary had qualified for the Quarter Finals and was placed in the first one but again the rain had been falling after Gary had last raced and had wet the track enough for Gary to go to wet setup. The race started and Gary was going really well with only 1 car passing until a wheel nut had worked loose on the inside front even though Gary had checked this before the start Gary decided to carry on but the cars handling severely affected but a good result despite that.

Result 43 Laps 4th Place

End of meeting for Gary who would hope for better luck at Nora for the next meeting.

Gary

Result 18 Laps 6th Place

Gary had another good day with the Semi Final the only frustration of the day but the car is going well and with Gary’s next meeting been the worlds in Holland Gary is confident of having a good meeting over there especially with the new tyres which he was very impressed with.

Gary

Sunday 14th June 2009- 1/8th Stock Car Northern Round held at Nora

The 2nd round of the championship with Gary leading the points after playing his joker at the first round.

A beautiful sunny day greeted the drivers and the weather would be good all day.

Gary had a couple of runs in practice with the 2nd one been the best after Gary had changed set up.

Heat 1

The car was ok but Gary was lacking cornering speed which was stopping him from going very quickly

Result 50 Laps

Heat 2

Gary changed one of the front tyres hoping for better grip but this did not happen it was worse than the first.

Result 47 Laps

Heat 3

Gary changed the car again hoping to get it better and it was until a burr developed on the slider on the engine causing the carb to stick on meaning retirement.

Result 25 Laps

Heat 4

Gary left the car the same for Heat 4 and set off again very well but early in the race the car started to rear to the right of the track hitting the fence on the outside. After inspection the rear outside hub had come off

Result 15 Laps Retirement

After the Heats Gary hadn’t qualified for the semi or the final and was placed in theGrand National. Gary went out and decided to take his time after all the mechanical problems before. Gary set off and was easily beating the other cars when the hub come off again Gary was upset by this as he was leading the field by about 5 laps when he had to retire from the race.

Overall a miserable days racing and hope for better luck at the next meeting

Next meeting Nora 28th June English Championship

Saturday 13th June 2009 – 1/12th Stock Cars at Urmston

Heats

All went ok except the car feeling slow and some good laps were put and Gary qualified for the Final

Final

Gary set off and was going ok but it was a very messy final with every big incident seem to involve Gary some of which wasn’t his fault but he finished the race in 7th Place a disappointing final for Gary as he was hoping for better.

Until the next time

1/8th Stock Car European Championship- Sunday 31st May RSCL Raceway Leicester

Gary had entered this meeting hoping to do really well the weather all weekend was superb and with the amount of cars present with the oil in the Nitro Fuel made the track very slippery for the day of the European.

Practise Saturday 30th May

Gary arrived around Lunchtime and went out and tried the set up he finished with at the last Leicester meeting but it was no good track was too oily so over the next 3 hours Gary tried different setups and for the last run found a good set up which was working well so Gary decided to pack it up ready for main race day.

Race Day Sunday 31st May

Gary arrived early to find a load of drivers already there so Gary set up in the pits, free practise was announced but Gary decided not to go out as he knew a little while after free practise he would get a timed practise with the other drivers in his heat so he waited for then.

Heat 1

After free practise went well the car was handling well Heat 1 was called and Gary made a good start but the car wasn't quite there but Gary finished the race

Result 43 Laps

Heat 2

Gary made a adjustment for Heat 2 and he again made a good start and raced really well the car went great and other than the Heat winner Gary saw nobody and finshed very pleased.

Result 45 Laps

Heat 3

Another good score would put Gary through to the quarter finals but Gary made a bad start and was always chasing then but the track was very slippy so Gary couldn't go flat out which cost him laps.

Result 43 Laps

Sadly Gary didn't qualify for the quarter finals by 2 laps bnut was encouraged by the way the car went and enjoyed the days racing.

Next meeting Nora 14th June Northern Round 2

Until the next time

Urmston Monday 25th May 1/12th Stock Car National

Gary entered his home National as he was available on the day so Gary arrived with Duncan from DS Racing to see how they would get on.

Practice found the car to be slow so Gary decided to put a new aeronaut motor in the car as the one in the car had been in since the 1/12th Worlds in Holland in February. Once changed Gary went out again and noticed the difference straight away as the car was a lot faster.

Heat 1

Gary made a steady start to the meeting but the car was going well and handling well too so good result was achieved.

74 Laps

Heat 2

After the encouraging first heat Gary went out again and was going good again until the car started to slow down about half way through Gary did finish but it had turned out a problem with a cell so the cells had to be thrown away

70 Laps

Heat 3

Tough Heat 3 started but Gary had got the speed and had a great battle with Nick Cooper with Nick just passing Gary on split times.

76 Laps

Heat 4

A quieter Heat 4 but a good score was required to hopefully get through to the Semi Final and Gary managed to pull it off again having a great scrap with Nick Cooper coming from about 2 Laps down to reverse Heat 3 and win on Split times]

77 Laps

After the calculations had been made as it was the best 3 rounds out of 4 rounds Alan Crossland announced the finalists first and Gary had qualified straight through to the Final which Gary was very pleased with.

Final

Starting 7th on the grid out of 8 cars Gary set off and made a steady start but Gary realized the car was going good and was weaving his way through the traffic and the crashes which happened in front of Gary and this was the story of the Final and when Gary finished he thought he may have finished 7th but to amazement Gary was told he had finished in 4th Place a career best result for a 1/12th National and Gary did 77 Laps again in the final

Many thanks to Alan for running the meeting and well done to Ben Harding on winning the Final.

Leicester- 1/8th Stock Car Friday 22nd May 2009

Gary turned out for this meeting hoping for a good meeting running Gary's new engine.

Practice started and with Simon Farrers help Gary started his new engine and set off it was going ok but the set up wasn't so Gary took it off the track for adjustments and went out again but on the starter box the engine's fly wheel came off which meant the engine coming out and the car going back together again.

Heat 1

Gary and Simon tried to start the car but again the problem had occurred with the flywheel so the buzzer starting the race was heard and the race began without Gary. Gary made a suggestion to put the other engine and Simon agreed that would be the best policy so an engine change and Gary got out to race near the need.

Result 14 Laps

Heat 2

After the disappointment of Heat 1 Gary got the car running and did practice again and started to race and the car was going ok but still needed tweaking but Gary completed the race.

Result 45 Laps

Heat 3

Adjustments made to the outside Rear tyre and Gary went out to practice and the car was so much better and was going great until the body popped the back of the car which caused Gary to strip his belt and did not complete the race distance.

Result 35 Laps

Sadly Gary had not completed enough Laps to compete in the semi final but was in the Grand National so a new belt was put on the car and tried to start the car and it wouldn't start which Simon diagnosed as a blown plug, a new plug was applied and off Gary went going very well in the early stages until a collision with another caused the body to pop off again and also the car stalled. Simon grabbed the car and took it back to the pits and fired it up again and put Gary on track for the remainder of the race Gary was going really well which pleased him as no other driver was passing him but Gary was passing the other drivers.

Meeting Report Nora Sunday 3rd May 2009

Gary entered the first round of the Northern Round and the weather was nice so Gary decided to play his joker

Overall a very disapointing meeting with Gary struggling with set up problems all day and the loss of 5 tyres during the days racing including both rear tyres in the Semi Final.

Gary best score was a 45 in Round 1 Heat 2,with other lower place finishes during the day and last in the semi final due to retiring from the race

Leicester 12th April 2009

After the good meeting at the National Gary arrived hoping to carry on from Notts + Derby but the weather wasn't great, when Gary left for Leicester the weather was lovely but on arrival things looked alot different with rain falling most of the morning till just after Lunch.

Heat 1

Gary not had much time with glueing up wet tyres set off and was going ok but had a colision with a fellow driver and lost radio the car was still running but not in Gary's control. Gary stripped the car down thinking first it was the receiver but it wasn't then checked the servos again all ok so Gary checked the batteries which go in the side of the car and a wire had come of them. Because of the short turnaround between Gary asked for more time which he was granted which Gary really appreciated.

Result 9 Laps

Heat 2

After the problems of the first heat Gary just went out and started racing the car was going ok but got into too many tangles as the rain had stopped

Result 34 Laps

Heat 3

After a Lunch Break and the Heats rearranged Gary went out again and seeing that the car was going well didn't change the set up which maybe Gary should have done as the track was now drying out but a good result anyway.

Result 45 Laps

Heat 4

The track had now dried enough to change set up from wet to dry so Gary put new rear tyres on again went out to race a much better race for Gary swapping positions with fellow drivers.

Result 46 Laps

Semi Final

Gary made the Semi FInal and started ok but it was a really messy race lots of race incidents lots of tangles which Gary got stuck in and also at one point ended up out of the track near Race Control.

Result 43 Laps

Overall a good days racing and the car starting to come good.

Notts + Derby 5th April 2009

The first National round of the season was held at Notts and Gary had repaired the car after Leicester the previous week. The weather was dry and thats how it stayed all day.

Heat 1

After a good practise session Gary went out for Heat 1 full of hope for a good meeting but disaster struck near the beginning when Gary lost the steering on the car due to popping the joint holding the sterring in

Result 3 Laps

Heat 2

Damage repaired after Heat 1 sterring sorted out the car was handling really nicely and Gary enjoyed the race

Result 46 Laps

Heat 3

After redrawing all the heats Gary was drawn with Jody Foster the Number 1 Driver in the UK and on his home track so Gary set off and was going ok keeping a good racing line.

Result 46 Laps

Heat 4

Gary gave himself a bit more turning for Heat 4 by giving himself more stagger on the back and it worked a treat Gary was really racing well and Jody only lapped him twice in the full race distance which Gary is proud of especially as he had a great scrap with Jody in the middle of the race

Result 50 Laps

Unfortuantely Gary didn't qualify for the semi finals as he tied with 2 other drivers who had better throw away scores than Gary's 3 Laps so it was the end of the days racing but an encouraging one been on the pace with the top drivers in the Formula

Urmston 21st March 2009

Gary attended this meeting as well as finishing a car off for Sunday, Gary had't altered much since the last outing on the car except putting a new tyre on the inside rear.

Heat 1
Quite a rough race this one but Gary was going well car was handling ok

Result 1st 60 Laps

Heat 2
After the success of Heat 1 Gary didn't change anything as the car was handling good and the car had good speed.

Result 2nd 61 Laps

Heat 3

No changes to the car again

Result 3rd 63 Laps

Gary had qualified for the final and was drawn on the outside front alongside his friend and webmaster Duncan Stott, Gary got a miserable start for the 2nd week running but mid race was going as well as anyone.

Result 6th 59 Laps tied with Duncan losing out on split times

1/8th Stock Cars Nora Sunday 22nd March 2009

Gary arrived early after getting the car finished collecting the bodyshell from D Signs and the engine arriving in time to go in the car it was all systems go

Practise
Only one run but this was encouraging with the car handling well and the engine was good despite it not been run in properly

Heat 1
Gary set off in Heat 1 right on the buzzer at the red line due to filling the tank up with fuel and started to race Gary was going well passing cars and not gettign involved in any incidents on track but unfortunately Gary did not put his transponder in but thankfully race control spotted this and hand counted which Gary is extremely grateful to them for doing this.

Result 3rd 48 Laps

Heat 2
After the incident in Heat 1 with the transponder Gary made sure it was in and set off the car was going even better and the result proved it with more laps completed.

Result 3rd 52 Laps

Heat 3
Disaster strikes while trying to start the car the top hat off the end of the engine fell off and with the windy day was blown off the bench we eventually found it but Gary missed Heat 4 too

Result Did Not Start

Thanks to Ian Yarwood who found the missing top hat off the engine it was put back on ready for the Grand National

Grand National

Gary was slightly worried as with the engine running so rich whether it would survive the 5 minute race and it did, sadly 4 cars should have started but only 2 did with Gary and Amelia Batty going round. Gary took this oppourtunity to test the car and again it was responding well the handling was good and the speed was getting there the car seem to go quicker each race Gary competed in.
Result 1st 61 Laps

Many thanks to all at Nora for all there help on Sunday and look forward to racing there again in the near future.

29th March 2009- Meeting held at RSCL Stock Cars

After the meeting at Nora the week before which ended with a win in the Grand National, Gary was determined to make amends with a good showing at Leicester.

Practise

Gary went out on the track and the car was awful no grip and struggling to get anywhere then Jody Foster offered to try and help with the set up of the car and the transformation was incredible the car was handling really well and while Jodfy was there also he started to tune the new engine and the speed difference was very good with the car feeling fast but not able to gauge how well until the racing began.

Heat 1
Gary had a reasonable heat with some quick drivers including Lee Wearing current Leicester Track Champion and Scott Grocock current English Open Champion so Gary knew it would be a fast race and it was but to Gary's surprise the cars speed and handling had continued and Gary was unlucky not to win

Result 50 Laps 2nd Place

Heat 2
On the back of Heat 1 the next heat was quicker still as the grip levels began to rise Gary couldn't live with Lee or Scott.

Result 50 Laps 3rd Place

The Heats were then swapped round

Heat 3
Gary was now still with Lee but now was racing with Ben Harding current 1/12th World Champion. the buzzer sounded and Gary set off really well then Lee broke down leaving Gary in front

Result 49 Laps 1st Place

Heat 4
This was a good race but not as good as the others as the car stalled twice and the drive belt started to go so Gary called it a day in this race

Result 5th Place 30 Laps

Gary had qualified 4th in this meeting and was placed in the 2nd Semi Final and with work been carried out with new drive belt fitted and more stagger on the back Gary set off for the semi final. Gary started ok and was leading for a little while and then Gary started coming across back markers but Gary collided with another car which left the car stranded in front of the drivers rostrum Gary kept the engine going as the cars have no reverse hoping not to get hit but unfortuantely just as the marshall arrived to move the car Gary's car was collected only visual damage was loss of rubber of the inside front but the car wasn't rifght but he carried on to the finish of the race.
Result 47 Laps 6th only 3 Laps of the winner

On returning to the pits Gary found that the inside wheel had been smashed in half on the impact of the accident and the bodyshell was broke in a couple of places which Gary will tape up ready for the National at Notts

Next Meeting 5th April 2009 Notts + Derby 1st National Round

Until the next time

Urmston 14th March

Gary's second meeting with the revamped car which was very good first time out and hoping to build on the first meeting

Heat 1

Gary set off slowly in this one but the car was going well

Result 61 Laps

Heat 2

Gary set off again but the car wasn't as quick as Heat 1 and with a minute to go the car went vwery slow obviously a problem with the batteries but Gary kept out of the way and finished the race.

Result 61 Laps

Heat 3

Gary was going better in this one and handling better and had some scraps with some of the other drivers

Result 63 Laps

Final

Gary qualified 5th for the Final and it was for the John Forster Cup so the final was started in qualifying order one problem from Heat 3 was a chunked rear tyre which had to be replaced which altered the handling of the car for the worse i am afraid.

Gary went on the buzzer but the car in front didn't go so Gary went in the back of him which put him last and in the first minute the race was very rough with Gary losing a lot of time including getting stuck on the inside barrier but Gary recovered but the race win had gone due to losing too much time in the early stages but still a good result.

Result 56 Laps 5th in the Final

Meeting Report 1/12th Oval Worlds- 21/22 February 2009

Gary entered the Worlds which was held at the Expo Show in Leewarden Northern Holland.

The format was seven rounds of qualifying best five scores to count, 40 drivers contested the meeting with 17 from Britain trying to become the 2009 World Champion

Qualifying Rounds- Saturday

Gary had high hopes of a good run but the first couple of heats major problems with batteries losing charge only getting 70 and 75 Laps respectively. But for the rest of the day Gary got a couple of scores of 80 Laps and one of 83 Laps. At the end of day one Gary was satisfied but he knew he would have to go faster on the Sunday.

Qualifying Rounds- Sunday

After a few laps practice Gary was satisfied that all was ok and the car was handling the same so he went out in Heat 6 trying to improve and he did winning the Heat with 84 Laps Gary’s 2nd Heat Win of the weekend and in Heat 7 went even better coming 2nd with 84 Laps.

Gary had done enough to qualify for the quarter finals which Gary was very pleased with, Gary was drawn in the 2nd Quarter Final but it was very quick Gary did a respectable 80 Laps and not disgracing himself but the car lacked speed.

So the Worlds ended there for Gary who had a very good weekends racing and congratulations to Ben Harding on taking the World Title for the 1st time.

Till the next time

Urmston 20th December

Gary sadly did not attend this meeting

H.O.T.S 27th December

Gary's first visit to the track in Haywards heath was a good one sadly no results to print but we did well with both cars with the Saloon Stox been quick and the Hot Rod was even quicker but the Hot Rod speed controller blew up in Heat 3 which mean't end of racing for the Hot Rod but Gary finished in 5th Place in the Saloon Stox Final

Adur 28th December

Gary was racing both Stock Car with items loaned by Gary Gamlin and Darren Grace and Hot Rod in the Rent a rod courtesy of Bob Mitchell

Stock Car

Heat 1 was ok the weather was very cold giving all drivers problems staring there cars but Gary got 2nd with 43 Laps

Heat 2 was better and the result was 2nd with 43 Laps

Heat 3 Gary set off for warm up ok until 1 lap in to the race the car stopped and the engine was very tight a strip down found a snapped crank so end of racing for the stock car.

Thanks to Dick Batty from Nora for helping me source a new crank for Darren's engine

Hot Rod

Gary wnjoyed racing the Hot Rod but the cold conditions made it very difficult to start and race various results achieved as Gary didn't start all of the races but the highlight was 2nd in the Semi Final putting him into the final where he came 5th after the exhaust dropped off.

A good weekends racing down in the south of england may return in 2009.
